Get Government In Gear

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Have you ever looked at a mobile structure on a desk or shelf? After something makes it move, it just continues to move until the energy that started it is used up.  When it is in motion, a mobile does not look like what it does when it is at rest.  When all the movement is over, the piece returns right back to where it was before outside energy affected it.  There are things in government that move and there are things that look like they move, we must learn the difference.

Alexander Calder was an American sculptor and artist credited as the father of mobile art. Another phrase for mobile art is kinetic energy. In science, kinetic energy is the amount of energy an object possesses due to its motion.  In contrast to that there is a concept called potential energy.  Potential energy is the stored-up energy that an object already has.  Government actually has energy and movement though it appears sometimes it does not.

A treadmill is art at work, a functional mobile.  We walk, or run, on it but when the energy is exhausted, we are still in the same place hoping that the potential in us has been improved.  The treadmill can be turned on but it does not affect a person until a person engages it. People either look at the treadmill or engage it to gain the benefit of it. Government must be engaged by the people for the people to gain the benefit of what it does for them.

The progress gained by getting governmental agencies and policies to act may appear just like that desk mobile.  Something starts it to moving, and it begins to move, but eventually comes back to rest at the same spot it began. The reality is that government is more like the treadmill that needs the people to get on it to move and the people end up in better shape if they use it.  The impact of the mobile art or the mobile tool is still felt by the person.  The person either has their mental, physical, emotional or spiritual condition affected because it exists.  Government affects us whether we engage it, watch it or participate in it.  In order to get the most positive experience with government, we should be involved with it.

What determines whether government moves forward or around depends on who causes the movement.  Just like the desk piece and the exercise equipment, the government needs the people to make it move.  Get involved with your local government so that the majority of the people can be heard and directly affected.
