PERRY — Georgia State Patrol Post 15 will be hosting a Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 20, located at 450 Larry Walker Parkway.

GSP Sgt. Michael Strickland described the fall festival as a community engagement event. Strickland pointed out games and activities, including a DUI simulator. Food trucks and KONA Ice will be on site as well.

“People can experience what it’s like to go through the process if you’re intoxicated, and you will be wearing the DUI goggles,” he said.

The fall festival will also have a seatbelt convincer, simulating what it’s like to be in a car crash. Strickland also mentioned a dunk tank and a driving simulator.

“You basically get in the driver’s seat and [the simulator] gives you different scenarios when you’re driving, and it may have somebody walk out in front of you or you’re responding to a call,” he said.

The idea for the fall festival originated from the Post Secretary and one of the troopers, according to Strickland.

“They wanted to do something for the community and the kids of the community, so this is what they came up with,” he said.

Strickland shared that the fall festival is a great way for families to bring their kids outside to enjoy fun and games, as well as a chance to get to know their local law enforcement.

“[The fall festival] just gives everybody in the community a chance to get to know your local troopers and local law enforcement in our area and to interact in a different way than what people have expectations of,” he said.

The Perry Police Department and the Houston County Sheriff’s Office will also take part in the festivities on Saturday.
