Genevieve Agnes Derks was born May 26, 1933, in Almena Kansas to Leo and Isabel (Lovejoy) Derks.

Genevieve Agnes Derks was born May 26, 1933, in Almena Kansas to Leo and Isabel (Lovejoy) Derks. She attended grade school and graduated from Almena Rural High School. She then attended Kansas State University and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi. Later she attended T. Hays State, Wichita State, Georgia State and graduated from Mercer University.

In 1953 she married Miles Evert Standish. The next twenty years were spent as an Air Force wife with many moves across the United States. Three children were born to this marriage. Myles Craig (Nancy) Standish, Curtis Marc (Amy) Standish and Johanna (Hugh) Severs. Lt/Col Standish died shortly after his second tour of duty in S.E. Asia in 1974.

Genevieve married Herbert H Miller (Maj USAF Ret) in 1976 and became stepmother to Desiree (Dan Collier), Deborah Miller, and Herbert H Miller Jr. Millers owned and operated MAACO in Macon GA. In 1985 they sold this business and moved to a home on the St Johns River in East Palatka FL and became active in the boating community. Genevieve also became active in a “new” program called Hospice that was starting in middle Florida. She spent many hours persuading doctors and patients of positive aspects of this program. She was Volunteer of the Year in 1989 with North Central Florida Hospice. She continued as an in-home volunteer with Hospice for the next twenty years.

In Palatka Genevieve belonged to the First Presbyterian Church where she served as circle chairman, usher chairman, chairman of the board of Deacons, and member of the bell choir. In 2001 Millers moved to Jacksonville. They joined Riverside Presbyterian Church where Genevieve served as a Deacon and Stephen minister. Her marriage to Herbert lasted 38 years until he passed away in 2014. Having had three children, three stepchildren, she had multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren. This Autumn she will be buried along with her husbands in Andersonville National Cemetery.
