Fromm competes for spot with Cleveland
HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — Former Houston County athlete Jake Fromm is currently seeking an opportunity to compete in the National Football League. Fromm recently attempted to make the 55-man roster of the Cleveland Browns at their team mini camp.
The Cleveland Browns traded Baker Mayfield after signing Deshaun Watson to a $230 million dollar deal.
Fromm was a member of the baseball and football teams while at Houston County High School. After graduating in 2017, he attended the University of Georgia, where played in 43 games throughout his career “Between the Hedges.”
While in Athens, the Warner Robins native threw for over 7,000 yards, 78 touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns. Fromm was 622-for-893 with 18 interceptions as a Bulldog.
Also at UGA, Fromm won a Sugar Bowl (2020), Rose Bowl (2018) and was awarded as SEC Freshman of the Year in 2017. After an exciting career as a Bulldog, he entered the 2020 NFL Draft and was selected in the fifth round, 167th pick, by the Buffalo Bills.
On May 7, 2020, Fromm signed a four-year, $3.7 million dollar deal with Buffalo. On August 31, 2021, the Bills released Fromm, and on the next day, he was re-assigned to the practice squad.
For some time, Jake found a home with the Giants but failed to stay consistent. The 6’2”, 215-pound quarterback made his first career start with the New York Giants against the Philadelphia Eagles. Fromm was benched in his NFL debut after only three quarters.
Jake Fromm also played quarterback for the Houston County Bears, during his high achool career. Playing under coach Ryan Crawford, Fromm was one of the most talented at his position, as a senior.
In his NFL career, Jake Fromm has started in two games, completed 27 out of 60 passes, thrown one touchdown, three interceptions and passed for 210 yards. On March 16, of this year, Fromm was considered non-tendered by the New York Giants, which made him a free agent.
