High school football is finally back! All of Houston County’s teams were in action this week. Here’s a roundup from Friday and Saturday’s games:
Houston County

The Bears made the trip up to Atlanta to take on Alpharetta in the Benz as a part of the Corky Kell classic on Saturday. They came away with a resounding 57-10 win that was fueled by big efforts in the run game and five scores from tight end Gavin Kurpis, who received game MVP.
Northside
Northside took down Eagle’s Landing on Friday in the battle of the birds, highlighted by 105 rushing yards from James Turner and two defensive touchdowns. Although the first half was close, the Eagles pulled away in the second half for a 38-18 victory.
Perry

Perry’s game against Baldwin at Fort Valley State University was the finale of the first annual Gridiron Classic put on by Bibb County athletics, and it was delayed hours and hours by lightning and rain. When it did finally start after 9 p.m. on Saturday, the Panthers dominated both lines of scrimmage to come away with a 37-6 win.
Veterans
The Warhawks started their brutal road-heavy schedule on Friday with a trip to Jones County, and lost 41-26. Justin Shine, well, shined, for Veterans as he found the end zone several times on Friday, but the Greyhounds used multiple touchdowns ultimately took the win.
Warner Robins

Warner Robins traveled to Leesburg for last week’s game of the week, but fell 45-28. Though the defense was staunch in the first half, holding Lee County to only 10 points and keeping Ousmane Kromah in check, the Trojans pulled away in the second half. The Demons’ offense struggled to do anything outside of runs from quarterback Skyler Williams. They had crucial drops from receivers, and poor pass protection from the offensive line.
Westfield

The Hornets took advantage of a depleted Brookwood team to completely dismantle them in a 55-6 win on Friday. Quarterback Brayden Gay had a phenomenal game going 21-of-21 through the air for 303 yards and a touchdown, and most importantly no interceptions. He also added a touchdown on the ground. Neal O’Brien contributed three touchdowns, and Jackson Hair rushed 13 times for 120 yards and a touchdown.
