Houston County (5-0) finished their non-region schedule undefeated for the third time in four years under head coach Jeremy Edwards with their 57-14 win against Tift County.

This also evened the all-time series at seven a piece and pushed the Bears’ winning streak against the Blue Devils to a new high at four.

The defense continued to impress as each of the four linebackers made big plays of their own as HoCo shut down the Blue Devils’ rush. The starters only allowed seven of the 14 points.

Northside

The Eagles (0-4) are still searching for their first win on the season after falling to Burke County 28-14.

The offense struggled to get going and put the defense in tough positions with turnovers. The Bears took advantage of those to go up 21-6 at one point before an 89-yard run by Aiden Carter set up an Eagles score with under a minute to play.

Perry

JuJu Carswell (2) brings down his second interception of the night to seal the Panthers’ 28-15 victory against Veterans. (Michael Hardison Jr/HHJ)

Perry’s (2-2) offense finally broke through their slump as they put up 28 points in their 28-15 win over Veterans at home.

The game was tied 7-7 at halftime but the Panthers busted the tie going up as much as 21-7 before the Warhawks responded.

JuJu Carswell pulled down his second interception of the night with 1:42 to play to seal Perry’s victory and snap their two-game losing streak.

Veterans

Trey Byrd (2) pushes through as he’s swarmed by the Perry defense. (Michael Hardison Jr/HHJ)

The Warhawks (2-2) couldn’t keep it above .500 despite giving Perry a fight in the Panther Pit in a 28-15 loss.

Veterans held the Panthers to seven points at halftime but lost their grip in the second half as Perry went up 21-7.

A touchdown and two-point conversion put 15 on the scoreboard for the ‘Hawks, but that was their final score as an interception with 1:42 left sealed their fate.

Warner Robins

Warner Robins (2-2) was on a bye this week. They’ll head down the road to Veterans to start their three-game road trip on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Westfield

Westfield (2-2) led the entire game against Tiftarea Academy but the Panthers punched in a five-yard run with 40 seconds left to pull the rug and send the Hornets into a two-game losing streak in a 20-19 final.

Win Hoots had a big return to the 41-yard line to give Westfield a chance, but they couldn’t get points on the board with the time remaining.
