Friday night assault was the result of neighbor dispute, sheriff’s office said
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A Warner Robins man was arrested after his involvement in an altercation left his neighbor injured on April 21, according to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.
That Friday night, around 5:45 p.m., deputies responded to the 100 block of Arthur Street in Warner Robins, where two males were suffering from stab wounds and a gunshot wound.
The wounds were a result of an altercation that started earlier in the day, according to lead investigator Lt. Matt Moulton. The two parties involved, 34-year-old Raymond Loyd and 55-year-old Rex Moore were neighbors across the street from one another.
According to Moulton, earlier that day, Loyd was walking a dog down the road. One of Moore’s dogs started barking at Loyd and his dog, then Loyd kicked Moore’s dog to keep it away. Moore confronted Loyd, asking him to not to kick his dog. He then asked Loyd to keep his dog away from his property and to stay away.
Loyd left the scene for his house, and Moore continued working on his truck in the driveway.
Hours later, Loyd confronted Moore in the driveway and began to argue with him. During the argument, Loyd lunged at Moore with a knife, cutting him on the left side of his neck and stabbing him in the left arm.
Moore brandished a pistol and shot twice at Loyd, grazing him under his chin. Both Loyd and Moore were transported to Atrium Health Navicent via Houston Healthcare EMS.
Investigators began working the scene, which spread over three separate houses due to Loyd and Moore traveling to nearby houses. Investigators also viewed surveillance footage from a nearby neighbor, gaining a clearer picture of the turn of events in the process.
Loyd was later arrested in Macon on April 25 by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Division. Since Moore was fearful of his life and injured, his actions have been ruled as self defense and he is unlikely to face charges.
Overall, given the scope of the crime scene, and the testimonies that needed to be heard, Moulton was thankful the case saw a quick resolution.
“We’re just glad that we were able to bring it to a conclusion as fast as we were,” Moulton said. “It took a considerable amount of teamwork and coordination.”
Loyd is currently housed at the Houston County Detention Facility.
