Forward Or Backwards?

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

We are living in a time where there are more generations present and living than at any point in history.  This interesting phenomenon has some peculiarities, such as, each generation seeing the same situation occurring and walking away from it with different ideas of what they have observed. The filter, or lens of perspective is important in our communications with each other, so that we establish some common ground of understanding in order to be effective in dealing with life circumstances.

Whether a person is a teen or in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s, this will have a tremendous impact on how they react to situations.  A simple statement can illicit several different responses.  It benefits all of the people when the messages we send are clearly understood.  There will be a lot to do for the learning of a single message to be understood by many generations.

Learning is a very personal thing.  Some people learn by hearing instruction.  Some people learn by seeing what to do.  Some people learn by doing through trial and error. However a person learns, it creates a source of information they use to determine how to proceed forward.  So, learning can easily be described as taking from the past and putting it to work today.

Mistakes, and missteps can be useful learning tools.  Successes, scoring points, or scaling new heights can also be ways to learn.  Regardless of what the past has been, it is still a wonderful reservoir to pull from in order to learn.  Therefore, it is significant that what we are learning from is accurate, honest and true.  Knowing the truth can set us free from all types of repeated pains if we know the truth.

Apathy is the enemy of learning.  It represents when we have a knowledge of something but do not take enough interest to use it.  When care and concern are absent, the possibility of new or different standards come forth.  The challenge is that those new standards may be lacking due to there being insufficient data available.  Just because a person is coughing does not mean they have a cold, there is a need for additional knowledge.

History repeats itself is an old adage, born from time, that has shown itself to have great value.  That being the case, the present can have different outcomes if we apply the lessons that we learn from history. It is important to know that the level of our participation can determine the outcome of our situations.  How we participate will reflect how we are currently handling the information we have about history.

There will always be distractions present to separate you from your good resources.  Do not let the noise of the moment keep you from using all the information you have available to make a good decision this election season.  We go forward when we participate and backwards when we do not.
