Forty years of avarice and greed
This scribe never lacks for good material. My columns practically write themselves. We’ve reached a point on the timeline where nothing that happens in our once-great country shocks much of anyone. I can honestly say that I don’t worry about me, or what could happen to me for speaking the truth. I’m mostly concerned about what our children and grandchildren are going to endure. We’ve spent the better part of 40 years sliding into the abyss. So very clearly, I remember, at the time, hearing President George H.W. Bush say that he wanted a New World Order, in one of his presidential speeches in 1990, prior to the Gulf War. I unmistakably remember making eye contact with a buddy of mine. We were both thinking the same thing … buckle up ‘cause here it comes. And boy it did.
In 1979, President Jimmy Carter normalized relations with the Marxist state of China. Less than 10 years later, in June of 1989, Bush, who was inaugurated earlier that year, was forced to deal with the brutal Tiananmen Square massacre. The Chinese Communists slaughtered over 10,000 student protestors in one day. We tend to gloss over statements like I made in the previous sentence. The Chinese Government ordered the military to mass murder 10,000 human beings that were protesting in the middle of their capital city. They were nonviolent peaceful protesters. Think of the gravity of that. Today, no one in China is allowed to speak of the Tiananmen Square massacre.
I can never forget the “Tank Man” as he is known. Without question, the most heroic act that I have ever witnessed was during that particular day. A thin Chinese man in black pants and white shirt, holding two grocery bags, held his right palm high, signaling the massive tanks to stop. He stepped to the left and to the right to stop the advance of the tanks. His name is unknown. Make no mistake, this man is a legend. Time magazine named him one of the 100 most important people of the 20th Century. It is generally acknowledged that this man was executed by the Chinese military during these Tiananmen Square protests.
Instead of doing what should have been done, which was to isolate the Chinese Communists from the rest of the world, the Bush administration folded like cheap chairs. I recently re-read the letter that Bush wrote Chairman Deng Xiaoping in the summer of 1989. It was softer than a silk road. The U.S. decided to impose some moderate trade sanctions against the regime in response to the murder of the 10,000 peaceful protestors. China had been coveting the “most favored nation trade status” as designated by the World Trade Organization, which it received less than a dozen years after the massacre. All of the Oval Office occupants, from Bush the first to Obama, were totally convinced that the Chinese Communists would embrace human rights and personal freedoms for its citizenry, once it endeared itself to capitalism and increased its wealth.
The presidential baton soon passed from Bush to Clinton. In 1993, President Clinton sold China a sophisticated $8 million supercomputer. In 1996, Clinton overruled national security officials and gave China critical missile technology. Clinton’s largest donor was the CEO of the Loral Corporation. The Loral Corporation wanted make some big bucks by selling missiles and related technology to China. Rumor has it that their souls were part of the deal. We practically gave them everything they have, in the name of helping them step into the world marketplace. There was a huge scandal about this, aptly named “Chinagate.” It involved the transfer of America’s most sensitive nuclear and satellite technology to China in exchange for contributions to the 1996 Clinton/Gore re-election campaign. Exactly as it has been in other recent Democratic administrations, no one was ever charged with a crime or held to account.
Bush the second, picked up where his daddy left off. He permanently extended China’s status as a normal trading partner. In 2003, China began artificially holding down its currency exchange rate, giving its exporters a huge advantage over its American counterparts. It literally decimated what manufacturing that we had left. China now had the upper hand. The U.S. and its allies were scared to death that they would lose the Chinese markets if they dared object to this total exploitation of our markets by China. Meanwhile, China became the world’s leading manufacturer (and we haven’t even gotten to the Obama presidency yet).
There’s actually not much to say, other than Obama simply opened the remaining floodgates and eliminated most remaining trade restrictions for the Great Panda. He also failed in bring back any manufacturing. China became the second largest economy in the world in the Obama years. There was also a 1,000% (not a typo) increase in Fentanyl deaths in the United States from 2011 to 2016. His administration all but ignored the Fentanyl smuggling from China that occurred in the U.S. during that time.
In 2013, Hunter Biden accompanied his father, Vice President Joe Biden, to China. During that trip, the Bank of China signed a $1 billion private equity deal with a firm with connections to Hunter. To this day, Hunter Biden continues to hold a 10% equity stake with the firm, as his dad attempts to lead our country. (Can you imagine the spectacle and endless investigations if Donald Trump Jr. or Eric Trump had done the same?) It is all very clear now. The Chinese quickly learned that American royalty would sell their souls for a piece of the pie. Why is it that no one in Congress or any government agency wants to investigate? Because the Chinese gave a lot of them “deals” as well. Democrat and current House Intelligence Committee member Eric Swalwell was found to have a “relationship” with a Chinese spy. Was that investigated? No. Senator Dianne Feinstein, while she was chair of the Senate Intelligence committee, was found to have a compromised individual with ties to China on her staff. Republican minority leader, Mitch McConnell and his wife, Elaine Chao, have deep ties/partial ownership to a major Chinese shipping company. Kamala Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, works for the law firm, DLA Piper, which has over 140 lawyers employed to handle investments in mainland China. In her career, Kamala Harris has always enjoyed close relationships with a plethora of Maoists, Marxists, and socialists, as she ascended the political ladder. I’m just mentioning a few; this list is long. You can’t blame the Chinese. They are simply benefitting from our avarice, greed, and total lack of morals.
John Adams, our second president, once said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” We have lost our way as a nation. Mark my word, there will be a heavy price to pay for it. May God have mercy on us, our children and grandchildren.
