Former Demon returning as a veteran for Tigers
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Former Warner Robins standout athlete Marcayll Jones has been on a journey of his own. The unique timeline of Marcayll Jones began in the summer of 2019.
On June 22 of 2019, Marcayll Jones verbally committed to the Memphis Tigers. On December 18 of that year, he signed his national letter of intent to become a member of the Memphis Tigers football team. On New Year’s Day of 2020, Marcayll Jones enrolled as a student athlete at the University of Memphis.
The 5’10”, 180-pound wide receiver is currently a redshirt sophomore. In 2020, Jones was a part of the 8-3 team that won the 2020 Montgomery Bowl. Also this season, Jones played in four games but did not get any targets, receptions, yards or touchdowns.
Looking to gain momentum, Marcayll Jones appeared in a dozen games during the 2021 season. Jones caught eight receptions for 94 yards and a long reception of 34 yards against the University of Central Florida. Unfortunately, Marcayll Jones never crossed into the end zone. The best game of Marcayll Jones’ career came against Tulane. Against Tulane, Jones caught four receptions for thirty-six yards.
Marcayll Jones has been a member of the Memphis Tigers 3.0 Club since early 2021. Prior to becoming a Memphis Tiger, he was a three-star prospect from “War-Town.”
Jones tallied 3,246 yards and 11 touchdowns, where he played varsity for four seasons. As a junior, Jones broke the Peach State record for most receiving yards in a season, finishing his junior campaign with 115 receptions, over 2,000 yards and four touchdowns.
Also as a standout Demon athlete, Marcayll Jones posted a career-long reception of seventy-eight yards. Jones also rushed for 135 yards and a long rush of forty-six yards.
Adding to his abilities, Marcayll Jones was an exceptional returner on special teams, in Warner Robins. Jones rushed for 413 yards on kickoff and punt returns, as a Demon.
Marcayll Jones intends to make an impact in the wide receiver room for the Memphis Tigers this fall.
The Memphis Tigers are a divison-one NCAA member, a part of the American Athletic Conference. The Tigers are coached by Ryan Silverfield.
