First things first – Trey Franklin’s Warner Robins Demons debut could not have gone better
The first day of school, first date, first time trying sushi, first football game, are all firsts that can be a part of a young man’s life. Warner Robins High School senior string safety Trey Franklin, a verbal commit to the University of Buffalo, had a first on Friday night, his first game as a Warner Robins Demon football player and by all accounts it was a success. The Demons won the game 40-29 and Franklin, well he had a nice night tool.
“It was a great feeling to be playing with my brothers,” said Franklin. “I played well but the team as a whole played great.” His coach agrees.
“Trey is a really good player and it showed [tonight],” said Demons head football coach and athletic director Mike Chastain. “I haven’t watched the film yet but I saw him coming up making plays all over the place.”
It didn’t take long for Franklin to knock a couple of firsts off his Warner Robins football list. He recorded three tackles during the first quarter. Check. Secured his first touchdown as a Demon at the 9:47 mark of the first quarter following a fumble recovery and 44-yard sprint into the end zone.
Asked what the first thing that came to his mind after he picked up the Blue Devils turnover with half a football field keeping him from scoring his first touchdown of the season, Franklin simply answered, “Score.”
Franklin would recover another fumble deep in Tift County territory later in the quarter along with two more tackles for a nice balanced stat line in his debut: 5 tackles, 2 fumble recoveries and a touchdown. Not bad for the new guy.
Hopefully the remainder of the firsts in Trey’s life and football career all go as smooth.
