First annual All-Star Bowl will have Houston County and Bibb County’s best football talent play Saturday afternoon
The best football talent in both Bibb and Houston counties will take the field at the Ed Defore Sports Complex in Saturday afternoon. The first annual All-Star Bowl, kicking off at 1 p.m., will have all five Houston County programs involved along with various coaches against players from the many Bibb county football programs. Houston County Bears head coach and athletic director Ryan Crawford, the Houston Home Journal co-coach of the year and Region 1-6A athletic director of the year, will serve as the Houston County team coach.
“I think it is a great idea to showcase the many players we have in the two counties,” said Crawford, whose Bears made it to the 6A state quarterfinals this season. “We have a lot of good coaches and players that deserve to be recognized on a yearly basis and I believe this game can be a platform for players to showcase their talents for an opportunity to play at the next level.”
“We are very excited about this new partnership with our friends in Bibb County,” said Dr. Chris Brown, Houston County Board of Education Executive Director for School Operations. “The most exciting piece of this bowl is the opportunity to provide scholarships to very deserving students.”
Tickets for the game are $10 at the gate. All proceeds from ticket sales will go towards a scholarship fund. “This is a great chance to raise money for student-athletes to have scholarships for the next level,” added Crawford.
“We have a lot of talent in middle Georgia and expect this event to draw college coaches, which will be very important in giving student-athletes the opportunity to play at the collegiate level,” said Brown.
The Ed Defore Sports Complex is located at 2851 Heath Road in Macon.
