WARNER ROBINS — With Easter just around the corner, Fellowship Bible Baptist Church will perform an immersive Easter experience on Friday, April 3. The experience begins at 6 p.m., with the performance beginning at 7 p.m.

Faye Boyer, Assistant Co-Director of the church’s theatrical ministry, and her daughter, Lauryn, are spearheading the experience.

Boyer said this Easter program is not something that you sit and watch.

“From the parking lot on, they walk through Jerusalem,” she said. “When you come inside to the full experience of the production itself, Jesus enters on a donkey, there’s a big parade and it goes all the way through the crucifixion.”

The cast comes from all walks of life and ranges in age from six to 76, with about 20 production professionals.

This Easter experience will be the first time Fellowship Bible Baptist Church has done something like this. Boyer said she and her daughter co-wrote the performance, and the story is one of her daughter’s favorites. She said the script had been sitting for a while. One year ago, both started making this dream a reality.

“When my daughter became leader of the theatrical ministry, we wanted to just get it off the shelf,” she said.

Boyer shared that her daughter also incorporated an Afro-Hebrew aesthetic into the performance, which felt right to her.

“It’s an international story in the international city, and the colors made it come alive,” she said. “The church bought into it because we love to bring in new people, and to know that they had the talent in house, they couldn’t help but get excited.”

As far as immersive experiences go, Boyer did not want to give too much away, but did point out that attendees will be given palm branches when Jesus comes in and will participate in a live communion.

Boyer thinks there should be more unique ways to tell the true meaning of Easter and said those ways should be relevant today.

“Part of our goal was that you would connect with people as our cast intentionally consists of believers and non-believers who are curious or indifferent,” she said. “We planted them in the cast intentionally so that everyone can connect with someone.”

Boyer, of course, loves the regular Easter church service as well; however, this experience will be much more unique.

“You’re usually told the story, this time you’ll get to live the story,” she said. “This is a moment that is something you feel, not just something you see, and moments like this stay with you.”

Fellowship Bible Baptist Church is located at 431 Dunbar Road, Warner Robins.
