Faith: The marriage mountain mover

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

If you are a follower of Christ, or even if you’re just a casual churchgoer (or were one at one time), you have probably heard someone use the phrase, “faith that moves mountains.” This isn’t just a saying; it has biblical roots that are tied to Matthew 17:20. It is there that Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Everyone’s “mountain” might be different, but at some point, in this journey called life, we all face them. No one is exempt. So, what mountain of situations are you being confronted with right now? Are you dealing with marital problems, an unwanted separation, a bitter divorce, mounting health problems, unhealthy and unholy addictions, financial struggles or perhaps, problems with your children? These—and anything else you’re dealing with in life that is far bigger than you—are examples of mountains.

As married Christians, most of us multi-task on a near-daily basis. We balance being professionals, parents, community leaders, church leaders, caregivers; we feel as though we’re facing an enormous concrete pile of obstacles that might look unyielding. They sometimes seem endless, and the situation might start to feel hopeless. Maybe your marriage is facing an injustice that seems ridiculous. You may be exhausted and physically challenged from being a husband and wife who are also the primary caretakers of aging parents.

Let us encourage you today. Whatever your mountain may be, God is a mountain mover! He can strengthen and equip you with what you need to overcome it all so that you can clearly see the main road that leads to His will in your life and your marriage. All you need is faith is a little bit of faith in God!

Are you walking in faith, or has the enemy incapacitated you with fear? Faith isn’t hypothetical; it’s the real deal. We put our faith in the assurances of God; in the truth He has revealed to us by way of the Holy Spirit.

“But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth]. For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father—the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future]” (John 16:13, AMP).

Having a happy, long-lasting marriage takes consistent faith. Why? Because we are created after the image and likeness of God, our Creator. Our arch enemy, the devil, would love nothing more than to steal, kill and destroy any opportunity for God to receive glory from what He created: marriage and family. All kinds of faith play into that combination, including faith in the future, faith in your spouse; even faith in yourself. These are all important, but there is a far more major kind of faith, a faith that enriches each of these but is far more powerful – a faith that moves mountains. We’re talking about faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His power to heal and bless your marriage and family. When we, as covenant couples, develop this kind of faith, we can overcome any obstacle. To have faith in Jesus Christ, we must first believe in Him.

“And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him” (Hebrews 11:6, NLT).

Faith asserts that we believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. To believe in Him, we must be taught about Him, appreciate His teachings and come to know Him individually by following those teachings. With this, comes the ability to believe with all our hearts that He has the power to save and bless us.

With all the demands this deadly world loads upon us individually and as married couples, we very much need this power, this deep steadfast faith in Christ. No wonder our church leaders have warned us to search the Scriptures daily, to draw near unto Him. They know that if we do this, we can make it through any trial and have the faith to move mountains out of our way in Jesus’ name… Amen!
