Dylan Fromm is too busy being his own man to be distracted

On Friday night before the start of the Houston County High School Bears and Warner Robins High School Demons game a sign hung from the lower level of the stands at McConnell-Talbert Stadium. There are always signs, banners and fan regalia that support the home team, whether it be the Demons or Northside Eagles but this one was different, this sign was personal. It read simply: You’re not Jake. The sign was referring to the University of Georgia starting quarterback and former Houston County High School star Jake Fromm. The “not” was underlined. The point was taken. Dylan Fromm, the senior quarterback for the now 5-1 Demon’s was the target of the gesture by that did not phase him one bit. It never does. “No matter what’s going on, we have to keep our heads straight and play to our standard,” said Fromm. “It’s still all about making plays and playing smart.”

And smart he played. The sign was ordered down before kickoff but the damage had already been done. Whether Fromm saw it or not didn’t matter, he played like he did. Minutes into the game he would throw his first touchdown pass. Two possessions later he would throw his second, giving the Demons a 14-0 lead. Asked if he ever gets worried about that kind of distraction, Fromm answered, “The game will sort everything out.”

At the end of the first half Fromm would have three touchdown passes. He would throw three more during the second half while also passing for 467 yards, more than the opposing team had in total during the game. Last season en route to winning Region 1-5A player of the year Fromm passed for 35 touchdowns and 3,505 yards. At his current pace, 22 touchdowns and 2,100 yards in just six games, he will pass both marks and continue breaking school passing records. If you want a sign, there’s your sign: Fromm is not going to be phased by outside distractions. Despite having a career year last season the Mercer University verbal commit is playing even better.

The memory of that sign was long gone before Fromm was halfway to another big night under center. Dylan Fromm, 19-2 as a starter, is most certainly not Jake Fromm, the banner was correct. He’s his own man on his own mission. The next time an opposing team thinks about hanging a sign it might want to do better research. Dylan is not trying to be Jake, he’s too busy being himself.
