Dublin Courier Herald Publishing Co. buys Houston Home Journal
The Dublin Courier Herald Publishing Co. has expanded its reach across the midstate with the purchase of four more newspapers, including The Houston Home Journal in Perry.
In addition to the Home Journal, the company also added The Leader Tribune in Fort Valley-Peach County, The Citizen Georgian in Montezuma-Macon County and The News Observer in Vienna-Dooly County. The Houston Home Journal publishes two editions each week; the other newspapers are weeklies.
“We are very excited to add these four newspapers to our company. They are a natural fit for us,” said Courier Herald Publishing Co. Board Chairman DuBose Porter. “We are a community newspaper company, and these are great communities that value their local news. We appreciate the Tribble family in trusting us to carry on these publications.”
All four papers were part of the Trib Publishing newspaper chain and were offered for sale after the death last year of owner Bob Tribble.
“It has been a pleasure working with everyone at these newspapers.” said Mitch Tribble of Trib Publishing.
Dublin Courier Herald Publishing Co. President Griffin Lovett said the four newspapers “are a perfect fit for our newspaper publishing company.”
“Covering local government, schools and sports is what we do. We look forward to being partners with the people and the businesses in these communities,” Lovett said.
The Dublin company owns The Courier Herald, which prints three times each week, and weekly newspapers in nine other counties – Bleckley, Johnson, Montgomery, Treutlen, Twiggs, Wheeler, Wilkinson, Washington and Hancock. The new acquisition expands the company’s footprint into a rapidly growing territory that includes Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins and the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry.
“This is a region that is experiencing tremendous growth,” General Manager Pam Burney said. “The opportunity to provide local news and a forum for businesses to advertise is one that we value. Local newspapers are essential to communities in Middle Georgia as partners in enhancing the quality of life in our part of the state.”
