Dr. Carl Lumpkin Beard, Jr.
Warner Robins – Dr. Carl Lumpkin Beard, Jr., passed away on February 11, 2013 at the age of 85.
Visitation will be held on, Wednesday, February 13, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 at McCullough Funeral Home, 417 South Houston Lake Road in Warner Robins. The funeral will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon, Georgia 31210 or to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
Dr. Beard was born in Macon, Georgia and attended Lanier High School. After serving in the United States Navy and attending the Georgia Institute of Technology and Mercer University, he received his M. D. degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine (now Wake Forest University School of Medicine) in 1954. He was the first board certified physician in Warner Robins, opening his OB/GYN practice in 1960. Dr. Beard was a charter member of the medical staff when the Houston Medical Center first opened and was a member of the Houston County Hospital Authority from 1987-1995.
Dr. Beard is survived by his wife of sixty one years, Susanna Barnes Beard; his son, Joseph Duell Beard; his daughters, Lisa Beard Sabbath (Michael) and Leslie Beard Davis (Mike); his grandchildren, Chason Carl Carter (Emily), Taylor William Carter, Natalie Duell Beard, Garrett Michael Davis, Seth Sabbath (Jess) and Rachel Gerrity (Brian); his great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Lynn Carter and Sephrie Susanna Carter; and is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Joe Mays.
