Distinguished Young Women of Georgia announces

the Distinguished Young Woman of Bonaire, Warner Robins and Houston County

Distinguished Young Women of Georgia, formerly Georgia’s Junior Miss Scholarship Program, held an at-large event to select qualifying young women for the class of 2016 on March 14, 2015, at Northridge Christian Church in Milledgeville.

Bailey Walker was chosen as the Distinguished Young Woman of Bonaire, Savannah Daly was named the Distinguished Young Woman of Warner Robins, and Shelby Burnette was selected as the Distinguished Young Woman of Houston County for 2016, and all three earned the opportunity to participate in the state finals program of the Distinguished Young Women of Georgia on July 24-25, 2015, in Marietta. The state winner will travel to Mobile, Alabama to participate in personal development activities and community service projects before competing with representatives from the other 49 states for the opportunity to become the Distinguished Young Woman of America for 2016 and for a share of more than $150,000 in cash scholarships. Georgia’s own Brooke Rucker, who attends the Florida State University, is the 2014 National Representative and won $65,300 in cash scholarships.

Founded in 1958 in Mobile, Alabama, Distinguished Young Women is the largest and oldest national scholarship program for high school girls. It has provided life-changing experiences for more than 730,000 young women across the country and more than $100 million in cash scholarships at the local, state and national levels. In addition to cash scholarships, Distinguished Young Women participants are eligible for college-granted scholarships from almost 200 colleges and universities. More than $365 million in college scholarship opportunities were provided last year, some of which included full tuition, room, and board to first-class institutions.

Distinguished Young Women is a scholarship program that inspires high school girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments. National sponsors include the City of Mobile, Mobile County, the Barbara Barrington Jones Family Foundation, the State of Alabama, the Alabama Association of RC&D Councils, Alabama Power Foundation, Encore Rehabilitation, Wintzell’s Oyster House, Master Boat Builders, Inc., and Regions Bank.
