Demons get revenge, make a statement against Lee County

The Warner Robins Demons are 5-0 following the 56-30 statement win over the No.1 ranked Lee County Trojans last week. The Demons went out for revenge and got it. Lee County kept up through the first half and opened the third quarter with a touchdown. But from then on, it was scary hours for the Trojans.

After Lee scored to close the gap to 28-23 in the third, the Demons shifted into a gear only they can hit. On the ensuing kickoff, JaFredrick Perry took the return 91 yards to the house for a touchdown. Warner Robins led 35-23 with 6:30 left in the third quarter. By the end of the same quarter, the Demons held a 56-23 lead.

“It was a really hard-fought win,” said Demons head coach Marquis Westbrook. “In the beginning we were going back and fourth. We came out kind of slow, but after we picked it up our guys got to rolling—and when our kids believe they play like it, and it shows up on the scoreboard. So, hats off to the coaches and the players tonight for their performance.”

Warner Robins has won five consecutive games against No. 1 ranked teams. Senior quarterback Christon Lane completed 14 of his 18 passes for 282 yards and four touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Daveon Walker went off with 10 receptions for 232 yards and two touchdowns and junior running back Malcolm Brown rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.

Warner Robins never relented in the win and made the statement that they can hang with anybody. Coming in the game, Lee County boasted a bunch of high-level Division-1 committed athletes and it seemed like Warner Robins wasn’t looked at as an equal, much less the superior team. But the Demons weren’t phased by any of it and proved why.

“Honestly, when we saw the scouting report, we saw D1, D1, D1,” said senior cornerback Antwon Jackson. “But you know what we told ourselves? We got D1 guys in this room too, so we’re going to matchup & play. We owed (Lee County) one from last year. They slipped away & got one but we don’t lose at The MAC.”

The Demons made another thing clear following the win, and they meant every word.

“We’re just going to say we’re going back to state,” said Lane.

“We’re coming,” said Jackson. “We’re going back to back.”

Warner Robins’ next game is on the road at Camden County (4-2). Camden lost to Coffee (the Demons’ region rival) 10-7 last Friday. The Demons will play Camden on Friday, Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
