Demonettes fall to Lady Hurricanes at home
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — After opening the season with a 14-13 win over the Baldwin Bravettes, the Warner Robins Demonettes have not been able to get the bats going again.
They’ve only scored two runs in their last two games, one of those coming in their 16-1 loss against the Jasper County Lady Hurricanes.
They’ve also had some defensive struggles as rookie pitcher Leanne Butts tries to find her footing in varsity softball.
The Lady ‘Canes started the game off with a triple from Hailey Roper, followed by multiple hits, ending the top of the first up 3-0.
The Demonettes weren’t able to answer in the bottom and went into the second inning scoreless.
In the top of the second the Lady ‘Canes seemed to out for blood, but after scoring one run the Demonettes defense with fresh pitcher were able to turn a double play and stop the Lady ‘Canes’ attack.
In the bottom of the second inning the Demonettes showed some signs of life, starting with two singles and ending scoring the only run of the game.
At the top of the fourth inning things started to get out of control for the Demonettes, with a series of wild pitches that cost them six runs. Their deficit turned to 10-1 and they couldn’t answer at the bottom of the inning with great defensive play from the Lady ‘Canes.
In the fifth inning head coach Rebecca White changed pitchers, however, the walks and wild pitches continued, and the Lady ‘Canes scored six more runs increasing the advantage to 15 runs.
Nevertheless, the Demonettes pitcher was able to strike out three players to stop the bleeding.
Lady ‘Canes head coach Justin Hamby also came with a fresh pitcher at the bottom of the fifth inning, and between the pitching and defense they left the Demonettes scoreless. The mercy rule was applied and the Demonettes went down 16-1.
