WARNER ROBINS, Ga. – The Warner Robins Demonettes started the 2023-24 softball season on the right foot with their 14-13 win over the Baldwin Bravettes last Friday.

In a pregame chat with head coach Rebecca White she stated all the girls have been working extremely hard to prepare for the season and to be competitive in Region 5A.

White mentioned she has many returning juniors and seniors that have been with the program the last three years. This group adding sophomore and freshman players should help them be more competitive.

Leanne Butts, a freshman, started on the mound for her first varsity game.

She was able to hold her own in the first inning but Baldwin still jumped out to a five-run lead. Though, in the second inning the defense showed some tenacity and held Baldwin scoreless.

They kept that tenacity in the bottom of the second and managed to tie the game up at five runs a piece.

The Demonettes continued to hold off the runs in the third inning and added two runs of their own to take the lead over Baldwin in the fourth inning.

Baldwin battled back in the fifth inning to score five runs to lead the Demonettes 10-9.

In the sixth and seven innings Baldwin was able to score three additional runs to push the lead to 13-9 heading into the final side.

The Demonettes did not back down in the bottom of the seventh and battled to get runners on base, and in scoring position, as Baldwin made some costly errors with a pitching staff that was tiring.

The Demonettes were able to tie the game at 13 with only one out.

Runners were in scoring position at second and third base and Baldwin walked the next batter to fill all the bases.

An untimely error by Baldwin allowed the Demonettes to score the game winning run, which sealed their first victory in the regular season. Butts pitched a great game going 3 and 2/3rd inning and Amiyah Cray finished the game in relief.
