Crawl before you walk: WR learning from this season
Just looking at wins and losses doesn’t define what Warner Robins has accomplished this season. Though the record isn’t one to be proud of, which was 2-12 before their game against Howard on Thursday, Warner Robins has improved compared to how games played out earlier in the year.
What’s not noticed in the wins and losses columns is the statistical improvement the Warner Robins Demons have made over the year. Instead of walking runners in, pitching has tightened up enough to make teams earn their runs. Offensively, the Demons have hit the ball much better than previously, and it has led to them playing longer games instead ending games with a quick mercy-rule loss.
Another aspect that’s not typically accounted for is the roster availability for Warner Robins during this pandemic.
“A lot of people don’t know, but the past four weeks I haven’t had a full squad,” said Head Coach Rebecca White. “We’ve had some out for two weeks due to quarantine, so we’re finally back as one. (Monday) was the first game we’ve been back as one, so it is what it is. Some people were playing out of position, but one thing we’re not doing is forfeiting ball games. We’re coming to play and coming to compete, so I can’t ask for more than that.”
Through a turbulent season like the one Warner Robins has experienced, there are many things to be learned. Coach White expressed the life lessons she’s taught her team since day one and how the season helps drive some of them home.
Following their loss to Northside, White mentioned how they can’t let one mistake determine the next thing during games. Well, that sentiment carries over to the life lessons she teaches, and one day down the road, one of White’s players may remember some of those lessons to help them get through life.
The Demons have four more games left on the schedule, and whether they lose the rest or win them all, they’ve learned some lessons that could help them out years down the road.
The next game for the Demons is at home on Tuesday, Oct. 29 against Coffee at 6:00 p.m.
