County residents urged to sign up for yard debris and recycling pickup before next week’s deadline
Houston County citizens can sign up for yard waste and/or recycling pickup, but must do so before the July 1, deadline.
HOUSTON COUNTY— Starting on July 1, 2025, Houston County will have a new waste management provider, Ryland Environmental.
Houston County Director of Utilities Terry Dietch said Ryland Environmental is based in Dublin, Georgia.
“[Ryland Environmental] are a relatively small business but have expanded quickly as they are in a lot of the communities throughout Georgia. They have very good customer service and reviews,” he said. “Where other companies may be profit driven, we believe Ryland is service driven,” Houston County Public Works Director Brian Jones added.
According to Jones, the county has had different companies pick up the trash. The contract with the current provider, Waste Management, was coming to an end, and the county would need to renew it.
“We felt like the citizens of Houston County would probably get better service if things were a little bit more competitive,” he said. “We strive to provide excellent service to the citizens of Houston County.”
According to a media release, residents must decide by July 1 if they would like to enroll in yard debris and/or recycling pickup without a service interruption. Trash collection will continue as usual for existing customers.
The release said yard debris and recycling must have separate enrollment for each homeowner. Residents who miss the deadline will not receive yard debris or recycling pickup.
Residents who do not sign up will still receive weekly trash pickup with no action required. Residents must request to enroll for yard waste and recycling pickup separately.
Bi-weekly recycling pickup and weekly yard waste pickup will be priced at $8 per month and require a year-long commitment.
Residents with questions are encouraged to call Houston County Public Works at 478-987-4280.
