County approves Carl Vinson widening phase
The Houston County Commissioners voted unanimously to widen Carl Vinson Parkway from N. Elberta Road to Dunbar Road.
According to a memo from Robbie Dunbar, the director of operations for the county, the project was originally in the 2001 SPLOST (special purpose local option sales tax) but was “value engineered out” due to the high construction cost during the second phase of the project. Phase II of the project was from Watson Boulevard to Elberta Road.
Currently, the cost of construction is lower, therefore allowing the project to go ahead, says the memo.
Stantec Consulting Services, Inc. of Macon will design the project for $98,280, which will come from the 2001 SPLOST, said Dunbar.
The project will include curb and gutters on both sides of the street and sidewalks on both sides of the street.
The agreement states, “The typical section of Carl Vinson Parkway from Bateman Road to Dunbar Road will be a three-lane section, with one travel lane in each direction and a two-way left turn lane. A left turn lane will be added to Dunbar Road, and a traffic signal may also be incorporated at the Dunbar Road intersection.”
