Countinued airtime for Critter Fixers: Local veterinarians return for season six of fan favorite show
BONAIRE. — The beloved show Critter Fixers returned to the TV screen for season six on National Geographic March 16.
The show started back in 2020 starring Dr. Vernard Hodges and Dr. Terrence Ferguson. The two doctors own a veterinary hospital in Bonaire, which received attention due to their ability to treat animals of all shapes and sizes.
The team has treated many animals including alpacas, squirrels, goldfish, puppies and squirrels. Hodges and Ferguson are excited for people to continue to see how they interact with different animals.
Hodges said they have expanded their staff more and are excited for their viewers to meet their new staff members and see new faces on screen.
Ferguson also said they decided to come back for another season to represent the area and be a good influence for children in the community.
“We enjoy doing the show and we enjoy what the show does for the community. Of course, in our area it will give us more exposure in the middle Georgia area, but it will also allow kids to be able to see Dr. Hodges and myself in a professional manner and kids can dream if they want to be veterinarians or be in the animal world and they feel like doing it. So, we can be influential for them as well. That’s why we continue to do the show,” Ferguson said.
Hodges and Ferguson both share what it is like to be on many TV screens. Hodges said it gives people the opportunity to get a glimpse inside of their lives and the community.
“They get to see middle Georgia. A lot of people when they think of Georgia, they think of Atlanta, but they get to see middle Georgia and the great way of life there and the great people,” Hodges said.
The veterinary hospital opened in 1999, and since then, Hodges and Ferguson have met many people, animals and critters.
Ferguson said his favorite part of the job is meeting new people and interacting with their clients.
“One thing about animals is they don’t walk in by themselves. We have the opportunity to just add to that family and family values by helping them with their animals. It actually helps the owners too. We always like to call ourselves the other family doctor. So, just being a part of that dynamic is exciting for us,” Ferguson said.
Hodges and Ferguson thanked their viewers for watching the show; at the start of the show, they weren’t sure what to expect.
“We’ve been able to showcase all the great things the whole middle Georgia area. We’ve shown everything from the Cherry Blossom which is a big thing in middle Georgia to getting the keys of the city from Warner Robins at city hall who are absolutely amazing. Also, some of the farmers and great pet owners. It has been a good thing just being able to share it with the people right there from our area,” Hodges said.
Season six of Critter Fixers airs nightly at 9 p.m. on National Geographic. It is also available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
