Commissioners approve road paving project
Houston County’s Board of Commissioners, Tuesday, approved a new road-paving project using funds left over from savings on other projects from the 2001 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax.
The board agreed to pave about 1.1 miles of Terrell Road from Elko Road to Sewell Road.
Commissioner Larry Thomson commended the Public Works Department for being able to spend the money well and save in order to have an extra project.
“By working hard and saving every dime, we can pave another dirt road, and I really appreciate that,” said Thomson.
This project could end up being the last 2001 SPLOST project to be completed, it was also noted.
In other business, the board voted for its 2015 vice chairman. Chairman Tommy Stalnaker thanked Commissioner Tom McMichael for serving as vice chairman this past year.
“I enjoyed serving as vice chairman and now we (the board) all make a motion and second for Commissioner Thomson to serve,” said McMichael.
The board unanimously voted and approved Thomson as vice chairman.
