Coming Through In The Clutch
Engines, motors or other sources that generate power require a way for that power to be translated, or transformed, in such a way that it is useful and has a practical application. There must be something responsible for that transforming. The item must be strong, and yet flexible. It has to be able to withstand the force coming to it while dealing with the resistance from the other side. This item is often referred to as a clutch.
Regardless of the type of engine on one side, the clutch is expected to handle the changes in power that come through it so that the transmission of that power is smooth. Manual or automatic, the clutch takes a lot of punishment in order to keep things moving. It is seldom seen, often mistreated and completely depended upon to get the task at hand done.
In the same way, there are people who we describe as clutch in our life. They can be counted upon. They are dependable on a steady basis and capable of handling sudden changes when necessary. A teacher or a counselor, a preacher or an officer, a doctor or a custodian, clutch people come in all shapes and sizes. Just as the clutch in my car works continuously without a lot of attention, these types of people are able to help us navigate the low speeds, the high speeds and the times of rapid accelerations of our life.
There are times, or generations, that have proven to be clutch as well. History is sprinkled with times of great change. Different empires, governments or statesmen that were crucial to ever-changing times. Military leaders who are still studied today for their tactics. Scientists who made great discoveries to improve the quality of life. Leaders who were agents of change while providing stability.
Each one of these eras, systems, or people oftentimes experienced the power of creativity while enduring a time, a people or circumstance that was resistant to the change at hand. As a result of how these clutch people, times, etc. are used, like the clutch in a car, they tend to wear out before the engine or the transmission they are attached to. The good news is that if we use them properly, they will not wear out. Whoever the clutch people are in your life, let’s do all we can to provide them the right amount of power and less resistance so that our lives can operate smoothly.
