Cole Brannen gets fresh start

PERRY, Ga. — Former Westfield standout Cole Brannen has become a household name within baseball’s Minor League circuit and has found a new home with the Washington Wild Things. Cole Brannen is an outfielder, a second-round pick of the Boston Red Sox in 2017. For the Red Sox, Brannen drove in 77 runs, while competing in the Boston system. Alongside 26 doubles, Cole Brannen has reached as high as Advanced-A.

The southpaw batter and right-handed thrower recently hit his first homer of the season for the Washington Wild Things. On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 21, Brannen approached the plate and took a swing at an ordinary change-up. It was at this moment, when Cole Brannen celebrated in enjoyment, as he rounded to home plate. The celebration was much needed for Brannen. His inconsistency at the plate has caused various scouts to overlook him, but as of lately, Cole Brannen has improved. In Washington’s 4-5 win over the Lake Erie Crushers, Brannen was very consistent in his batting during plate appearances and even better in the outfield.

The Elko native has not had an easy journey on the baseball diamond. Back in late March, the Greenville Dive released Cole Brannen after being assigned to the team since leaving the Salem Red Sox. Brannen spent some time in Boston, as a member of the Red Sox, after signing his initial contract in June of 2017 but was released in February of 2019. The journey for Cole Brannen is not over, as we should see the talented athlete back in the major leagues very soon.
