City of Warner Robins receives grant for affordable housing

WARNER ROBINS – The city of Warner Robins recently received a $1.5 million grant from the Community Home Investment Program.
The CHIP grant is a housing grant the city plans to put towards building new units. According to the Director of Community and Economic Development Kate Hogan, the city applied for the grant in 2022 for home rehabilitation.
Hogan said the city owns property that would be used to build residential units. In January, the city decided to apply again for the same funding, but for new construction. She said the grant will be used to build 10 new townhome units.
“It’s just going to give an opportunity for us to bring some more affordable housing into our community. We have some availability challenges, and we just wanted to be a part of the solution,” she said.
Hogan mentioned the city has a partnership with the Development Authority which helped them receive the grant. She said they hope the grant and the new town homes will provide citizens with affordable housing in the community and the opportunity for home ownership.
She said the city is excited about receiving the grant and providing new opportunities for citizens.
“It’s always nice when we can leverage state and federal funding in order to achieve our goals. That is part of Mayor Patrick’s administration, as far as wanting to make sure that we are very responsible for each and every taxpayer’s dollar,” she said.
