Christianity suits me just fine

There is something uniquely wonderful about Christianity. Those who follow other religions do not have what the Christian has been given in Christ.

The Buddhist has been taught to face the trials of life, simply as best they can. Sadly, however, they must do so alone. Why? Statues are unable to help. Nor can carved images hear, let alone answer the prayers of its followers. Were it not for the blinding depravity of man, the absurdity of placing earthly or eternal confidence in something dug from the earth and carved with human hands would be readily recognizable. How irrational and unreasonable! Yet, every day, millions of deceived souls will bow before some golden idol, pleading for help that will never come. Compare this hollow hope to the solid certainty there is a living God who cannot be confined to any mechanism of men, but whose throne is always available to all who will approach Him through His Son.

Further yet, to find purpose or meaning or to answer what happens after we die, the Hindu relies on mysticism, reincarnation and karma. As opposed to the Christian, who has been given divinely inspired revelation in the Word of God. The Bible clearly explains there are not endless amounts of gods hidden within every object around us. Nor does some chaotic cause and effect govern all things, but a Sovereign God who created and controls the universe. It is this Triune God who rules and reigns, rather than karma or cosmic coincidence.

Yet equally as tragic, Islam, the fastest growing religion in the world, offers its adherents no lasting peace, assurance or comfort in this fallen world. Its founder has long ago died and his body corrupted by centuries of decay and decomposition. What can Muhammed do to assist the scores of devoted, but deceived, individuals who bow to Allah reciting ritualized prayers throughout the day? The answer … nothing. But Christianity has a living Savior! Jesus of Nazareth, who conquered death, hell and the grave, is alive forevermore.

Not only does the Lord hear the prayers of His people, the Bible states God delights in them. Further still, the Almighty is moved with compassion and tenderness when His followers face adversity in life. God has promised to give His children the grace they need for every trial. No artificial deities of men: whether stone statues, golden figurines, fate or false prophets can meet the multiplied needs of mankind. Only God can do that. That is, the God of the Bible. Philippians 4:19 affirms, “My God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

But perhaps even more baffling, more shocking than people placing faith in the multiplied erroneous religions of the world, are those who choose to face life without any religious affiliation. I honestly do not know how some people face life without any confidence there is any higher purpose or meaning to what happens, than simply the random cruelty of evolution. The religion of atheism (and it is a religion) is simply another empty belief system held on to by those who refuse to bow to the truth of Scripture. Frankly, I don’t want to face life without faith in God … maybe you do … but it seems so pointless; at least to me.

The Bible tells us God created men in a state of holiness, but we rebelled. The consequence of that rebellion was death. Yet, God, in His mercy, sent His Son to redeem us from our sin, and to provide eternal life. By faith in the substitutionary death of Christ, we have purpose and meaning in this life and the promise of eternity with our God … and that suits me just fine.
