Charles Johnson Family Night, Academy in June
Registration is
officially open for the second annual Charles Johnson Foundation Sports Academy
& Family Night. Johnson, a
Georgia ‘07 graduate and Carolina Panthers defensive end, is the host of this
camp scheduled for June 21-22 in Hawkinsville.
The sports academy is
open to Middle Georgia kids grades 1-12.
Campers will enjoy
two days of instruction and fun while learning from Johnson and his NFL
friends. Far more than just a sports camp, the Sports Academy & Family
Night will feature football basketball, cheerleading and dance clinics, as well
as a college fair and college informational booths.
As a former star
athlete at Hawkinsville High School, Johnson knows exactly how difficult it can
be for talented youth to achieve their full potential without strong support.
That is why, for the second straight year, he is returning to his hometown to
teach the local kids about the power of both sports and education.
“I am so happy to be
in a position to bring my camp back to Hawkinsville for the second consecutive
summer,” said Johnson. “The main goal of this camp is to encourage kids from
Middle Georgia to get involved in sports and make better choices. I am fully aware of my responsibility
and opportunity to positively impact children and look forward to teaching them
the fundamentals of sports and life.”
For the second year,
Johnson will be announcing two new recipients of his college scholarship awards
at this year’s Sports Academy. One
boy and one girl, seniors at Hawkinsville High School, will each receive $5,000
per year towards a college education up to four years totaling $20,000.
The scholarship was
founded by Johnson to ensure that today’s student athletes are fortunate enough
to have the same opportunities that helped him achieve his dream of playing
professional sports.
Spots for the sports
academy will fill up quickly, so any Middle Georgia child grades 1-12
interested in enriching their life through sports and education is encouraged
to quickly register. For more information on the Charles Johnson Foundation,
how to register, and for available sponsorship opportunities for the Sports
Academy & Family Night, visit www.charlesjohnsonfoundation.org.
