Central Georgia Tech XC season took team to Fort Benning on Saturday
The 14th Annual Cougar Invitational took place at Stewart Field in Fort Benning on Saturday morning. The Central Georgia Technical College Titans and Lady Titans teams joined Fort Valley State University and other Georgia collegiate programs for the 5k and 8k races.
The University of North Georgia Nighthawks, A women’s Division II program that has won all three of the meets they have participated in this year, won the 5k race event with senior Brittany Truitt finishing first overall with a time of 18:11.75. Shambria Smith, a Central Georgia Tech sophomore paced the Lady Titans with a time of 23:45.13 while three runners from Fort valley State finished within the top 60 runners. Fastest amongst the Lady Wildcats runners was freshman Aja Manning (23:55.46), in 57th place.
An unattached runner, Tim Asis, won the men’s 8k race with a time of 25:23.63. Central Georgia Tech freshman Samonzy Wiggins paced the Titans runners with a time of 33:22.45, good for 50th overall. Fort Valley State freshman Dekwan Barnes finished 47th and Wiggins’ Titans teammate Gary Reeves finished 75th overall.
Both the Lady Titans and Titans cross-country programs will be in Albany on Saturday for the Albany State University Willie Laster Invitational.
