Centerville gears up for Spring clean up

CENTERVILLE, Ga. — Spring has sprung in Houston County, and with that, many of us are looking to get our houses in order and do some deep cleaning. The city of Centerville wants to make the process a little easier for its residents, so they’re gearing up for Spring Cleanup Week, set to take place next week, from April 17 – 21.

Collaborating with Ryland Sanitation, the city’s contracted trash pickup provider, set the plans in motion. Centerville announced the cleanup week on social media, printed literature at the public works office and during their April 4 city council meeting, with council expressing gladness toward the upcoming service.

To successfully accomplish the annual cleanup, the city plans on utilizing additional resources from Ryland Sanitation, according to Assistant Office Manager Kim Johnson.

“It’ll still be people’s regular trash day, they’re going to have a second truck that comes behind and picks up extra items,” Johnson said.

During the week, Ryland Sanitation will pick up additional items left on the curb at no cost to citizens. Items must be placed on the curb before 6 a.m., on their scheduled pick up day.

Bulk items, like furniture and mattresses, are eligible for pickup. Items that are prohibited include hazardous materials, construction materials — like wood, brick, or plumbing — as well as tires.

Tires without rims can be dropped off for free at the Warner Robins Annex parking lot, Houston County Landfill, and Perry’s Purchasing Department on April 21 and April 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Since household appliances can contain hazardous material, they may not be picked up on the curb, but can still be hauled away. The public works department encourages citizens to schedule an appointment, where they will pick up the appliance and take it to the recycling center.

For more information and to schedule appliance pickup, call the public works department at (478) 953-3222.
