Centerville Council presents Lions Club proclamation
Centerville City Council made several important announcements at the Tuesday meeting.
In honor of its success in public service, Mayor John Harley was pleased to present a copy of a proclamation to the Centerville Lions Club. The proclamation was given to Centerville Lions representative J.C. Cofield as a commemoration of April as White Cane Month due to the Lions participation in White Cane Days; events dedicated to reaching out and helping the visually impaired.
“I encourage our citizens to give generously to White Cane Month and join me in sharing the Lions’ concern for the best sight for our neighbors in need and be able to make a difference,” Harley said.
Additionally, Council participated in the 2019 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant Award (LMIG) of Contract in which Director of Operations, Mike Brumfield recommended this year’s LMIG contract be awarded to Reeves Construction Co. for the amount of $142,237.70 for work to be done on Eagle Springs Road. The council voted to award the contract to Reeves.
“They weren’t the actual low bidder, but the way the contract was bid, they actually are from the City of Centerville because there was some bids that were higher on this sheet, on bid list that weren’t included in ours,” said Brumfield.
Council approved the new Job Description for Event Coordinator in Centerville. Centerville Director of Operations Kate Hogan presented the job description as something similar to what council would have observed as an internship position the previous year, but has since grown to a full time position.
“It’s very similar to the marketing and event coordinator position that was had as an internship available [for] part time last summer, so it is just an expansion of that to a full-time position,” Hogan said.
Councilman Micheal Evans showed support of the job and the position that an individual performing it would fill. The job of the Events Coordinator is to assist the City in giving back to the citizens and creating a sense of community that Evans himself enjoys participating in as a citizen of Centerville.
“This is just the next step in giving back to our citizens” said Evans. “Being a citizen of Centerville, I come out to a lot of the events and I really enjoy them and encourage people that live in my neighborhood and that I work with to come out and enjoy them too, because they are great events.”
