Bright futures ahead for Houston Co. locals
Marquis Westbrook and the Warner Robins Demons claimed their first back-to-back state title wins. Last season, Warner Robins finished 14-1 overall, and they also sported a 3-1 record in region 1-AAAAA. The Demons players completed their historic Cinderella run to repeat as champs of the GHSA class 5A, for the second consecutive season.
After a hot spring, the Demons showed that they are prepared for a three-peat. After losing JaFrederick Perry, Christon Lane and Deuce Petty, Warner Robins still has returning veterans who can be passed the Demon torch. Victor Burley, a junior defensive end is known as one of the best interior pass rushers in the country. Known to many as “BIG VIC,” Victor Burley is a five-star pass rusher and run-stopper. Currently, Victor is the second best defensive end in Georgia and fifth best in America.
After visiting the University of South Carolina on March 19, the gentle giant announced a list of top twelve schools a week later. In no particular order, these were among Burley’s top 12 choices: Oregon, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Michigan State, Florida State, Tennessee, Oklahoma, USC at Columbia and Clemson. After taking a visit to Clemson, Victor “BIG VIC” Burley announced an updated list of schools, which he directed to all media outlets via social media. Burley’s updated Top-12 is: Ohio State, Michigan State, Florida State, Texas A&M, Florida, LSU, Miami, Georgia, Tennessee, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Clemson. The 6’5”, 290-pound defensive lineman is ranked 35th overall in the class of 2023. The rising senior gained his fifth star after his sophomore season and has been a rising star ever since.
Nicholas Reeves received his first collegiate scholarship offer on March 30 of this year. The 6’4, 290-pound offensive and defensive lineman has a 4.0 GPA, which is what attracted Dartmouth to Reeves. If the consistency can continue, expect more Ivy League schools to contact Nicholas Reeves in the near future. Elijah Antonio is another Demon with high volume. Antonio was offered by Western Kentucky on April 27. The strong safety is the latest Demon to secure an offer from WKU.
Three-star athlete Malcolm “Sweet Feet” Brown recently received an offer by Missouri State. The rising senior tailback is already entertaining collegiate offers from Tulane, Coastal Carolina, Buffalo, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, NC-State, Virginia and Minnesota.
