Blue Devils clip the wings of Warhawks

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Friday night’s matchup between the Tift County Blue Devils (2-6, 1-2 Region 1-6A) and the Veterans Warhawks (3-5, 0-3 Region 1-6A) was a battle of winless teams in region play, and the Blue Devils edged out the Warhawks 14-6.

Veterans’ season has not gone as they’d hoped, as the offense is currently on the fourth quarterback and they’re facing other issues revolving around player injuries.

Veterans hoped to get the game off to a good start when they received the opening kickoff, but after a touchdown was called back on holding, they missed a field goal attempt that was wide left.

Neither offense was able to sustain drives and usually was off of the field in a handful of plays.

Veterans’ defense provided the spark to keep them in the game, but they just couldn’t punch the ball in the end zone.

The second quarter nearly mirrored the first, it was a battle of defenses with Kane Byrd getting a sack in on the Blue Devils.

Judd Perdue almost recovered a fumble he caused, but the Blue Devils kept possession.

The only score by either team before the half came on a pick six by Veterans’ quarterback Kendall Davis, and the Blue Devils took a 7-0 lead into halftime.

Veterans tried to start the second half with an onside kick, but the Blue Devils got possession of the ball and managed to complete a 40-yard pass on third and long.

Luckily the defense was able to hold up, and forced a punt after a sack to make it fourth-and-19.

Unfortunately, the Veterans offense just couldn’t get any momentum, and they entered the fourth quarter down 14-0 after another Blue Devils score.

Veterans did manage to get into the red zone with a pass from Davis to Antonio Scott to start the fourth quarter, and they were able to come away with a touchdown.

The extra point was blocked, however, and despite the opportunities they had in the final period Veterans fell 14-6 to the Blue Devils to remain winless in the region.

UP NEXT

Now losing four straight, Veterans will look to get back in the win column this week against the Northside Eagles (3-5, 1-2 Region 1-6A) who have also missed their starting quarterback Damien Dee as well as other players.
