Blocking at the Net: Spotlighting three seniors – Emily Deighan

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

There are many leaders this year in Houston County and three elite leaders from Warner Robins, Northside, and Veterans High Schools have proven to fill the shoes on and off the court.  All three show tenacity, grit, and most important, sportsmanship.

All of these student athletes have larger aspirations after high school and of course, all seniors deserve congratulations. Best of luck to all seniors, whether or not GHSA playoffs are in sight this school year.  All of the senior experiences will provide the guidance needed to be successful in life.

Northside High School: Emily Deighan

Emily Deighan’s favorite moments when her team would fight for every point throughout all the matches they have played over the years. Deighan’s parents were influential when she first started; they did not know much about volleyball, which was the driving force for her to better show them what good match play looks like.

The biggest lesson her high school and club coaches have taught her was to have faith in her teammates as they will come through and have faith in her.  She also stated, besides coaches, her teachers have taught that “everyday is not going to be a good day” but you must make it the best day possible. Volleyball has taught Deighan that you must put all your effort into life as you may not win all the time.

The Northside team showed that you have to play as one unit, instead of depending on individuality. Deighan has the height for her team but she was not against playing all facets of the game to include setting, defensive specialist, and sprinkling in some kills.

Deighan’s leadership to her team will allow them to grow in the future to become more competitive. One of her favorite moments was to honor the seniors in your junior year, sending them off with a great memory.

Deighan is not planning on playing competitively in college but is planning on playing intramural volleyball at UGA and majoring in Business Management. She certainly was a key player for her team and she has left many leadership qualities for her team to build on next year.
