A bicyclist was left in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle while crossing a street on the night of March 12.

Warner Robins Police Department arrived on the scene at the intersection of Carl Vinson Parkway and Leverette Road after receiving a 911 emergency call at approximately 7:20 p.m.  Police Chief John Wagner informed the Houston Home Journal that the incident is still currently under investigation by Traffic Sergeant Randy Evans.

Preliminary investigation revealed that 54-year-old cyclist, Henry Jones of Warner Robins, was traveling on Leverette Road and crossing Carl Vinson Highway. A white 2018 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 41-year-old Ariel McRae-Spencer of Marietta, was traveling north on Carl Vinson as Jones was crossing the intersection via the crosswalk when she struck the cyclist.

He stated that McRae-Spencer and other witnesses claim that she had the green light. “The driver, it appears, had the green light,” Wagner shared. “We’re investigating as to whether the cyclist was crossing against the crosswalk signals.”

He further expressed for the safety of the public, “You have to abide what the crosswalk signal indicates. If the hand is up, you don’t cross.”

Currently, no charges have been filed since the investigation is still underway, according to Wagner. Unfortunately, Jones suffered serious head injuries and was transported to Atrium Health Navicent in Macon where he was listed in critical condition.
