Battle of KCES top economics teacher in Ga.
Kings Chapel Elementary fourth grade teacher Angie Battle has been selected as the 2014 Georgia Economics Teacher of the Year. The award will be presented at the Annual Luncheon of the Council on May 13, at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta.
This award recognizes elementary and secondary classroom teachers who make outstanding contributions to the teaching of economics in the Georgia schools. Nominees must teach a course in economics or integrate economics into other courses at any K-12 grade level.
“Angie Battle does a wonderful job bringing economics instruction into the elementary classroom,” said Pam Knauer, coordinator of social studies. “She is creative and brings so much passion to social studies instruction.”
Kings Chapel Elementary School principal Paulette Tompkins praised her teacher, saying, “Mrs. Battle has a passion for teaching and an even greater passion for her students.”
Award criteria require teachers to demonstrate
A knowledge of economics appropriate to the grade level or courses being taught;
An ability and willingness to use a variety of appropriate methods and resources in teaching economics;
An enthusiasm for the teaching of economics; and
Creativity in the teaching of economics.
