KATHLEEN, Ga. — The Warhawks from Kathleen defeated Woodward Academy in the first round of the State 6A playoffs.

In Game One, the Hawks won 12-10. In Game Two, the Hawks lost 5-3 but prevailed in the final game to advance. The Eagles from Woodward Academy lost in extra innings in Game Three, 7-5.

The Veterans Warhawks will advance to the Sweet-Sixteen to compete against Decatur. Game One of the second round will begin at 4:30 p.m. and Game Two will begin at 6 p.m. Decatur continues their season, as they hold onto a 22-10 record. Decatur is the second seed from region 5 and a high-scoring team, with 252 runs scored in 2022.

Veterans finished 2022 at 4-8 in their region, which was good enough for the fourth seed in region 1-5A. The Warhawks will travel to Decatur, as the Hawks will compete against the Bulldogs this week.

In 2022, Hunter Dryden is leading the Warhawks Baseball Team in stolen bases with nine. Jarrett Pierce is leading Veterans in total fielding percentage at 0.984%. For some quick team statistics: The Hawks have scored 178 runs in 2022 but have allowed 171 from opponents.

The Veterans Warhawks are 17-15 overall — and after their recent win — remains in a good position to make a historic run this postseason. As the Warhawks continue their title quest, Veterans is currently anticipating their current tasks. The Hawks are 9-4, at home, but on the road the Veterans Warhawks are 6-9. At neutral sites, the Panthers are 2-2, as well. Veterans is just one of three Houston County High School baseball teams, who remain in the 2022 post season. Veterans is a member of GHSA class 5A, Perry is a member of GHSA class 4A and Houston County is in class 6A. All three of these Houston Co. schools have a chance to win a state title.
