FORT VALLEY, Ga. – A man has been arrested for a fatal hit and-run in Fort Valley back in July, according to a press release from the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). The GSP says Javeus Mont gomery, 23, has been arrested and charged in the hit-and-run that left James Oates, 65, dead on July 23, 2025. According to the press release, Georgia authorities responded to a report of a pedestrian accident on Georgia Highway 96 on Wednesday, July 23, around 2:00 a.m. Welcome Center. The Byron Welcome Center and Byron Convention & Visi tors Center hosted their 3rd-An nual BBQ Fest at North Peach Park on Friday, Sept. 19, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Saturday, there were numerous cook teams prepping their barbecue to be judged by members of the Georgia BBQ Association. The Mayor and City Council have recognized a well-known community member with a proclamation for their dedication to the Peach County community during their September monthly board meeting. Tim Wilson received a proclamation for his lifelong commitment and dedication to support the Peach County High School Mighty Trojans by attending every football game, whether at home or away, since 1975. The Flint Energies Foundation awarded a $5,000 grant to the Fort Valley Youth Center of Excellence, Inc. to enhance transportation safety and visibility for its programs. The grant will support the purchase of booster seats and signage for the Cen ter’s newly gifted 15-passenger van. Represented by Belinda Baker and Michael Edwards, the Youth Center emphasized the importance of both compliance and community recognition.
