ASMC prepares for its 2020 holiday toy drive

The American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) is a non-profit educational and professional organization for persons, both military and civilian, involved in the overall field of military comptrollership. Their mission, according to their official national website, is “to provide professional development and promote ethical behavior in all aspects of defense financial management.” Throughout the year, however, ASMC is known to do much more, and despite COVID-19, this year is no different.

For most people, the holidays are a great time for giving, in our homes, in our places of worship and within our communities. However, something not always thought about are the people that want to give, but very simply cannot.

That’s why, on December 12, between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., the local chapter of ASMC will be holding a toy drive, hosted outside McCall’s restaurant, at 1001 Watson Boulevard, Warner Robins, in hopes of brightening the holidays for those who need it most.

Families participating in this special outreach will be able to drive to the event and remain in their vehicles while members of ASMC and volunteers will load their vehicles with gifts.

In an online interview rendered earlier this month, Chapter President April Crawley was quoted as saying, “Christmas is not just about Santa Claus and the elves, but kids don’t always understand that. This is really an opportunity for us to help those parents not have to have such hard conversations—adult conversations about finances—and just give them a little sense of hope and joy.”

Originally the registration deadline was December 7. However, registration closed early on November 23 at noon.

You can, however, apply to a wait list. To do so, call April Crawley, the chapter president, at (478) 213-5759, or email asmc2020toydrive@gmail.com. Make sure to provide your child’s name, age and any interests they have. If you wish to volunteer or donate, you can reach out in the same way.
