Arthur Brown signs with Charleston Southern
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The Houston County Bears had another player sign his letter of intent Wednesday.
Arthur Brown, who played wide receiver and defensive back last season, signed with Charleston Southern University, a Division I Christian university located in Charleston, South Carolina. In his senior season, Brown led the team in tackles, with 86, averaging 6.6 per game. Brown also had over 200 yards receiving and four touchdowns.
“It feels amazing,” Brown said on the day of the signing. “The big dream is to go to the NFL, but I’m going to mainly focus on getting my education. But I’m going to continue to ball out and make a name for myself.”
Brown stated that he was going to play “safety, or anywhere in that back seven, where I’m needed.” He really stepped up his senior year and carved a name for himself on this loaded Bears team. A humble young man, his willingness to put the team first and fill needed roles led to a breakout season, and I have no doubt Brown will put in the work and make a name for himself at the next level.
“When I first got to HOCO, he was one of the first kids I met,” Coach Jeremy Edwards said. “He has a phenomenal personality. He brings energy to any room that he walks into — great speaker, great leader and obviously a great player, that speaks for itself — so to see him be able to go on to sign a college scholarship at a great college like Charleston Southern is just a blessing for him, and I’m so proud of him.”
Brown joins a long list of student-athletes from Houston County that signed their letter of intent a few months back. The Bears are preparing for a big year next season as they have many players returning, and Coach Edwards, who will be entering his second year as the head football coach at Houston County, is looking to have another extraordinary season.
Last season, Coach Edwards led the Bears all the way to the Elite Eight, improving their record from 4-7 under the previous coach, to 10-3 in his first season. The Houston County fans are pumped for next season, as the Bears are primed for another deep playoff run.
