Appreciate the time you have
When I was younger, I would laugh when my elders would tell me, “Enjoy the time you have. It will be gone before you know it,” or when people would utter that famous phrase, “I remember those days …”
I am only 23 years old and it occurred to me the other day that that I am turning into one of those people. I am no longer “hip and cool.” My sister, who is in high school, uses lingo that I am not familiar with. Young girls scream over bands like One Direction while the bands I grew up with (Backstreet Boys, Nsync), well most children have no idea who they are. It’s like I am turning into my parents when they talk about growing up in the ’80s.
Back in the day, I just wanted to grow up and be an adult. When you are younger you think being an adult is the best thing in the world. All you can see is the freedom and light at the end of the tunnel. What you don’t see is all of the responsibility that comes with being an adult, or the ridiculous amount of taxes you will have to fork over. With real life, comes real bills. I am not looking forward to paying back my student loans.
In college all I had to worry about was waking up on time for class and if I studied hard enough for a test. I could stay out all night with friends and then roll out of bed in the morning. The best part about being in college was the daily naps I got to take in between classes.
Now that I am an adult with a job, life is not the same.
Time is literally passing by in the blink of an eye for me. Enjoy life while you can and appreciate every moment you have. You never know what life has in store.
