Annual health and housing fair continues to inform citizens
PERRY, Ga. — The third annual Perry health and housing fair took place last Saturday, April 8, at the events center. The fair involved many local organizations sharing information about their services and it was open to anyone interested.
Although the weather wasn’t perfect last weekend, people still showed up to be informed of services in their area. According to the special events manager Amy Harmon she was looking specifically for people who had anything to do with health and housing. Among the services in those categories were public health, public safety, hospice services, maternity services and chiropractors, as well as several more.
Public safety organizations that were at the event were the Perry Police Dept., Perry Fire and Emergency Dept., Leisure Services and Code Compliance. Harmon said that they all play an important role in keeping people safe and healthy in the city’s community.
Housing organizations like the Hernandez Group were there to tell anyone stopping by about the Georgia Dream Homeownership Program and how they can help the Hispanic community buy a home in the area. People involved in the housing industry like mortgage brokers, realtors and the Georgia Dept. of Community Affairs were there to answer questions about their housing outreach program.
The event was a great place to find out more about health insurance like Medicare and Medicaid. Organizations that participated in the fair included Hospice of Houston County and the Community Organized Relief Effort, which gave information about free COVID-19 vaccinations, the Warner Robins Rehabilitation Center, Middle Georgia Medicare, Obamacare, which gave people information about the Affordable Care Act, the Cantrell Center and maternity services, like Baby Time.
Harmon hopes events like these will help the Perry community.
“This is the third year we’ve done this event and it’s part of community development. Making sure that we are giving the best services we can to our citizens in Perry and surrounding communities,” said Harmon.
These events also make citizens aware of local business and organizations helping keep the community safe. Harmon said she reached out to many businesses to participate in the fair.
“People within those industries look for things that align with what they do. We always want to make sure we got the best of the best available,” said Harmon.
Harmon said all applications to participate in events are on the city’s website under “special events.” To find out more about events happening in the city of Perry visit perry-ga.gov/special-events-calendar.
