Annual golf tourney helps local veterans
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Trinity Vision Global hosted its annual Sponsor-a-Veteran Golf Tournament Friday at the Southern Hills Golf Club. The goal was to raise funds so that Trinity Vision can continue their work of providing services to veterans in Houston County.
The nonprofit organization puts together the tournament annually to raise money to continue helping veterans both locally and nationally. According to Trinity Vision Global Founder Angie Eugene, their goal is to create a hub in the area for veterans transitioning from the military. There are nine veterans active in the organization who helped to develop the program.
“I have veterans who are organizing the program for veterans, the hub, because veterans know what veterans need,” Eugene said.
Eugene added that Trinity Vision helps veterans with many necessities, such as toiletries and clothes. They also assist them with paperwork, such as forms dealing with disabilities and the job interview process. They set up mock interviews and provide them with clothing to help them get the job they want, and writers in the organization help them with their resumes as well.
“This particular event is geared towards veterans because there is a need. There are a lot of veterans that need help here in our backyard, in our local community. They’re not looking for a handout, just a hand,” said Eugene.
Everyone was invited to attend the tournament to sponsor or to support, network and socialize. People who wanted to sponsor a veteran could do it at the event or on their website beforehand.
Eugene said that there were 20 organizations and businesses sponsoring and donating to the event. These organizations included Tidal Wave, Morris Bank, Warner Robins Rotary Club, Wilson’s Bakery and Frito Lay. Eugene is grateful for the support from other organizations and businesses.
Some organizations not only showed their support by sponsoring veterans but also donated snacks and other gifts to attendees. According to Eugene, Frito-Lay donated 200 bags of chips, Wilson’s Bakery gave coupons for a free dozen of cookies and Tidal Wave provided coupons for car washes.
The organization puts together multiple events every month to help the community. Not only do they help veterans, but they also put together events dedicated to raising awareness of issues like breast cancer and domestic violence. They also give out school supplies during the back-to-school season and food and toys during the holiday season.
