Anne S. Smith
PERRY, GA –
After an extended illness, Anne S. Smith, 93, of Perry, passed away peacefully at Heart of Georgia Hospice on August 3, 2017, with family by her side. Visitation will be held at Perry Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Perry Presbyterian Church with interment to follow at Perry Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Reverend Parker Agnew and Reverend Jim Shipley. The family has suggested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Perry Presbyterian Church building fund.
Anne was born in Abingdon, Virginia on June 21, 1924 and spent her childhood near Cleveland, Virginia. She graduated from Cleveland High School in 1939 at the age of fourteen. Her family then moved to Bristol, Tennessee where she could enroll at Virginia Intermont College. Upon graduation in 1941, she married William Jackson (Jack) Smith Jr. They lived in Bristol until April 1959 after the family dairy farm, Elmdale Farms, was relocated to Houston County. Mrs. Smith became a member of the Perry Presbyterian Church that same year and has been involved in many aspects of the church since. She served as a choir member, a choir director, pianist, a member of the Eunice Rammage Circle, as well as circle leader and teacher, and taught Sunday School. With farming being the family business, Anne became a member of the community Heard Club, as well as the GA Farm Bureau. Known as “Miss Anne”, she touched the lives of many families working at Wee Wisdom Kindergarten and later Perry Presbyterian Playschool for over 40 years.
Mrs. Smith is survived by two of her three children William Jackson (Toni) Smith III of Perry and Susan Smith (Robert) Kluge of Gainesville, VA, her sister, June S. Eaton of Burke, VA, five grandchildren Kevin (Amy) O’Neal of Atlanta GA, Leanne (Jarrod) Brannen of Perry, GA, Clay (Kerry) Smith of Perry GA, Jordan (Hayley) Ellis, of Lexington, KY, and Hannah (Justin) Hubbard of Lexington, KY, and 13 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years William Jackson (Jack) Smith Jr., her daughter Patricia Anne O’Neal, and her brother Patrick Henry Smith, Jr.
