Andrew Reyes is giving back to the game that he loves one little golfer at a time. Reyes, 12, is assisting with the club professionals at the Houston Lake Country Club with the club’s summer golf camp this week. The camp is taking place through Friday (9 a.m.-12 p.m.). “We are here to help any junior golfer that wanted to sign up,” said Reyes by phone early Wednesday morning. “I’m trying to teach them the basics of putting, chipping on the range, the game.”

Early on Tuesday morning Reyes, a rising 8th grader at a county middle school, took to the greens with the campers to help them with their games and their confidence with the clubs, he also managed to help himself in the process. “I just like helping juniors and I just want them to go through what I did,” said Reyes who took up the sport from a very early age. “I have experience with the game and it kind of makes me feel excited for them because once they get that down their golf can expolde.”

Despite his young age Reyes has a bit of experience teaching golf, having instructed at the Junior Strokes camp run by Houston County High School varsity coach Aaron Munn and PGA pro Jarred Reneau last summer and plans on doing the same this year as well.

“Andrew had just turned five when he attended his first camp and it’s nice to see him giving back to the game,” said his father Freddy.

Andrew’s younger brother Alex, 7, is also starting to learn the game, “I want to leave it up to him whether or not he wants to play,” says Freddy of his youngest son. And on his oldest son Andrew giving back to the game. “Andrew could play golf for hours,” says Freddy.

He can also teach the game to the next generation of golfers too.
