A local resident’s garage and vehicle erupt in flames
A single-family home on Piedmont Lane in Bonaire of Houston County suffered lasting damaging effects from a garage fire on Monday afternoon.
The Warner Robins Fire Department responded to a call at 12:50 p. m. Responders arrived swiftly on the scene within mere minutes and were able to put out the fire, but unfortunately, not before the fire severely damaged a vehicle that was in the garage at the start of the blaze.
Deputy Chief Bobby Wood of the Warner Robins Fire Department spoke with the Houston Home Journal and shared that the cause of the fire was due to a space heater. According to the fire report, the occupant of the house stated that while he was working on a vehicle in the garage, he heard a pop from the space heater. The occupant also mentioned that there was fuel on the ground, which possibly led to the ignition of the flames, which soon engulfed both the garage and the vehicle.
The occupant was able to call 9-1-1 immediately, and emergency responders arrived approximately four minutes after the call.
“There were no injuries reported in firefighters or occupants,” assured Wood.
Although there was no official word given on the condition of the affected home and vehicles, a car appeared to be a total loss, while the home itself and a truck on the property showed extensive damages.
Space heaters, as has been previously mentioned in cases of accidental structure fires, can pose a very real threat to fires in the home. To decrease the chances of an accident resulting because of the use of a space heater, please refer to the instructions and precautionary measures provided by manufacturers with the purchase of the heater.
