Houston County inmate dies, GBI investigating
The GBI is investigating after a 33-year-old man died in county custody.
PERRY — A Macon man died in county custody this week.
According to the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, Shaquan Warren, 33, suffered a medical emergency while housed at the Houston County Detention Center.
On May 5, around 5 p.m., he was first transported to the Emory Heathcare — Perry emergency room. Then, he was taken to Emory Healthcare — Warner Robins for more evaluation and treatment.
Warren was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:45 p.m. on May 6. He had been in custody since April 24.
Due to Warren’s incarceration, Sheriff Matt Moulton requested an investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations. His body was taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.
